Rods and reels will be at the ready for the Waiheke Marketplace King of the Bay fishing competition this Sunday, March 21.
To have a chance of reeling in the top prize of $2,500 and a host of other prizes, keen fisher-folk should bring their freshly caught fish to the Sports Club on the Causeway between 1pm and 3pm where organisers Waiheke Rotary will be running the weigh-in.
The good news this year, is that while the top prize remains the same, ticket costs have gone down to just $25 for adults, and the children’s ticket price has remained the same as last year at $10.
Along with the major prizes for the competition, there will be a large selection of spot prizes including fishing charters, fishing rods, kitchen scales and vouchers for lucky ticket holders.
In the unlikely event that no fish is caught in one category, prizes will be drawn on the ticket number. And if the weather turns extremely bad, everyone still has a chance to win something as all prizes must be won on the day so will be drawn on the ticket numbers at the Sports Club.
Each year, the fish auction proceeds from the event go to a good cause. This year, Waiheke Soccer will benefit from the event.
Members of the public are invited to come along for the auction even if they didn’t take part in the fishing competition.
And when you’ve grabbed a nice bag of snapper, but don’t fancy spending all night grappling with bones and scales, Waiheke Fishing and Recreation Club will be on hand to fillet your fish for a small charge.
Tickets for the competition are on sale at Hamills and BP in Oneroa, The Barn SuperLiquor, Offshore Marine, Erua Fishing Supplies and Resene-Home Plus in Ostend, and Onetangi Service Station.
For further enquiries phone organiser Dave Cook on 09 372 4160.
