Feathers and frills, powdered wigs and ribbons were the order of the day at Mudbrick restaurant to raise money for the art gallery's artist in residence programme.
Guests took up the Venetian Carnival theme to dress up in costumes – the more elaborate and fussier the better – and masks decorated with feathers, glitter and ribbons.
While the need to eat and drink led many to discard their disguises, some managed to wear their masks all night, says Waiheke Community Art Gallery director and event organiser Linda Chalmers.
And thanks to community support and donations, Ms Chalmers says the auction, under the stewardship of Deborah Kelland, raised more than $5000.
"It was a fabulous evening. We had everything from Carmen Miranda to a gorgeous European count. There was a lovely juggler, live music from Real Entertainment and body sculpture from Dust Palace – all beautifully MCd by Stephen Tozer."
