Two latecomers in the bid for a seat on the Waiheke Local Board threw their hats in the ring just before the nominations closed on Friday.
Marijke Ransom and Paul Walden filled out their forms at Planit cafe in Ostend, backed by two high profile residents – former politician Sandra Lee and peace activist Kit Nelson.
Ms Lee says it is important for the public to support "younger islanders" who are familiar with the island but who have "the old values".
She says: "It's time to give the island a younger voice."
Ms Ransom and Mr Walden are running together with Allen Davies. They are calling themselves Absolutely Waiheke.
Mr Davies says Mr Walden's family has been associated with the island for over 100 years, Ms Ransom was brought up on the island and that he has been associated with the island for 60 years.
