Local zumba instructor Rahman Saleh was so happy to become a New Zealander he "hugged the mayor" after receiving his official papers in a ceremony at the Auckland Town Hall.
The Malaysian-born Waiheke resident regaled his tale and announced he had become a Kiwi citizen to his zumba students at their class last month, when a New Zealand flag hung in pride of place on the stage at the Palm Beach Hall.
To celebrate further, Mr Saleh gave everyone a free zumba class ticket and a chocolate at the end of the night.
