BRAVELY BALD: From left: Louise McKerny, Stu Velvin and Tony Moss were three of seven residents to lose their locks for Sahara Adams. Back row: Amanda Sands, Heather Warnes and Melissa Askham from Phoenix Hair Design.

Chef Tony Moss won't be wearing a woolly hat this winter despite having his lengthy locks removed to raise funds for the family of leukaemia sufferer 12-year-old Sahara Adams.

The fundraiser at Food Embassy on Sunday attracted six other brave participants who took part in the sponsored shave, courtesy of Phoenix Hair Design.

One of these was Louise McKerny, who has now completed four charity shaves.

Before going bald, Mr Moss spent over an hour sporting a clown's haircut, complete with bald top, long sides and some thin strands combed sideways over his bald patch, much to everyone's amusement.

"We're still counting but we raised at least $2000 for Sahara and are still waiting for more to come in," Mr Moss says.

A Waiheke Rotary car boot sale and raffle alongside the event raised just under $1000 for Rotary to distribute to island causes. Musicians SoulSista and Aaron Carpenter entertained during the four-hour event.

"We'd like to thank all the sponsors," Mr Moss says.
