Fun, music and prizes at Christmas festival
The new Waiheke Island Christmas Festival on December 1 will be given an extra boost with Oneroa business owners promising a prize draw.
Anyone who makes a purchase at any of the Oneroa stores during the festival will be in to win.
Ocean View Rd will be closed to traffic from noon until 4pm with the Christmas festival fun between 1pm and 3pm.
The Auckland Council funded event will have a lot of children's activities like the usual bouncy castle and face painting but some new additions will be kids' jousting, swing ball, balloon twisting and entertainers.
Father Christmas will make his entry on top of fire chief Ron Leonard's old fire truck, before settling himself in his own Santa's Grotto inside Bayley's Real Estate office. Little ones will get the chance to sit on his knee and a photographer will be on hand to capture the moment.
Musicians will be entertaining the crowds all afternoon as they check out the community groups and services' static displays before making their pick for the People's Choice award.
Oneroa shops are urged to dress their windows in their Christmas best for another competition and the Waiheke Local Board will be awarding a prize too.
Rain date is December 2.
