The Waiheke Community Art Gallery opens its big summer exhibition tomorrow.
Waiheke Heats Up is a celebration of the Waiheke summer, the coastal lifestyle and its place in the Hauraki Gulf, gallery director Linda Chalmers says.
"Waiheke artists are able to really show how living on Waiheke influences their work and imagery.
"Expect to see the best of our island summer featured in this big and diverse exhibition - Katie Trinkle Legge's iconic swimsuit paintings, the lush blooms of lillies from Gwen Rutter, Leon Van Den Ejikel's abstract works that portray our green landscape and vibrant sunsets, Mike Morgan with his distinct comments on our Waiheke places and lifestyle, Alex Stone's lyrical wind vanes, and the Hauraki Gulf portrayed in glass by John Hanson."
Opening in the Small Gallery is Abstractions, an exhibition of ceramics and paintings by two of New Zealand's most significant ceramicists Peter Collis and John Parker complemented by works from Julie Collis, and the textural paintings of Richard Adams.
In the Annex, Artists in the Vineyards returns to the gallery for the summer season.
For the past two months six vineyards have hosted the works of 10 Waiheke artists, all of which relate to vineyard activities, the changes of the seasons, workflow patterns and the enjoyment of wine.
The exhibitions open on Friday at 6pm and run to January 7.
Waiheke Community Art Gallery is at Artworks on Korora Rd, in Oneroa.
