Ethel Stevens still loves a visit from Santa - even after more than a century of Christmases.
She is one of Waiheke Island's oldest citizens and at 103 has met the red-suited character many times before.
The annual Senior Citizens Christmas lunch is usually held at one of the island's many eateries but this year organisers Cherry Johnson, Joan Brown and Lois Anderson decided to hold it at their regular meeting venue - the Surfdale Hall. The 35 attendees enjoyed a sit-down lunch at tables decorated complete with Christmas crackers.
After-lunch entertainment was provided by the popular Wai Wai Girls - Raewyn Neilson, Marg Graydon and Sarah Williams, clad in their Christmas best, along with Judy Neilson and her daughter Vanessa, Dennis Bull, Jan Roxburgh and Ray Pye as the star of the day - Father Christmas.
Wai Wai Girl Sarah Williams says it was fun being part of the Christmas celebrations.
"It's a delightful group and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I just hope Santa's antics didn't cause any sleepless nights!"
