Dancers' car could foil NYE plans
Damsels in distress could be on the streets this New Year's Eve as they try to make their way to a glitzy night of cabaret.
The Sassy Dancers are supposed to be performing at Casita Miro but their vintage 1923 Jewett keeps breaking down on the streets of Waiheke Island.
Choreographer Eleanor Parkes says Sassy dancer Pepper took a hard turn and blew the engine.
"She just doesn't know how to handle that gear stick."
Whether they make it there on time is anybody's guess but Pepper believes people should keep the faith and "get ready for a good show".
The Sassy dancers will be joined by a host of other top entertainers at the evening called Cabaret Cabaret. They include celebrity crooner Pat King Cole, also known as Pat Urlich, with songs from the 40s, Latin samba dancer Pamela Argentina and female duo Tight Knickers.
Organiser Katy Soljak says creative director Zach Boyd and his "wicked wit" will weave a web of entertainment on the night.
"The cabaret summer series will showcase top Waiheke performers in a fabulous setting."
