It's 20 years since police moved into the big Waitakere station on Buscomb Ave and they're marking the anniversary by opening the building to the public.

Senior sergeant Kim Stewart says they are hoping to have displays of the armed offenders squad, police dogs and search and rescue officers.

People will be able to see the latest technology at work in areas like fingerprinting and traffic enforcement

. Police have also invited various other emergency services to attend.

"We want to make it a family day," Mr Stewart says.
