Protest gets backing

A group opposing the Auckland supercity proposal is joining forces with the Waitakere City Council to fight the government’s plans.

The Community Coalition for Auckland held a protest rally in Henderson on Wednesday and is calling for more public input into the planned supercity.

The coalition is made up of more than 70 community organisations, says spokesman Tony Mayow.

He says the fact the council has decided to back the campaign is a great result.

"We didn’t work for 20 years for the gains of the eco-city to be stolen away from our communities."
