A new online organisation for children is urging young Aucklanders to use water wisely.
The Water Ambassadors Kids Club is an initiative of the Waitakere City Council.
More than 100 children have already signed up and several attended the official launch in Henderson recently.
Council public affairs adviser Frances Harrison came up with the idea for the club which is aimed at five to 10-year-olds.
Children register online. They receive an activity pack in the mail and can post artwork or ideas on the website.
Ms Harrison says the whole family can learn how to be less wasteful with water as a result.
"The need to conserve water around the home is becoming more and more important. Our population is growing and the climate is becoming more unpredictable."
She says the club is an example of the council’s willingness to foster innovative and creative ideas.
The council aims to reduce water demand by 25 percent per person by 2025.
