Takeaway owner Hing Guo can’t believe how close his wife came to being seriously injured or worse after a car crashed through their shop window on Monday.

Mei Dong was at the front counter of Peninsula Roast and Southern Fried Chicken when the accident happened at about 4.30pm.

"It just missed her," Mr Guo says.

"We are very lucky."

The Henderson resident was at the back of the shop when he heard a bang and ran out to check on his wife.

"I saw the car coming," he says.

"I told her to move because she was just stunned."

The red stationwagon crashed through the shop’s window and collided with the counter, stopping about a metre in front of Mei Dong.

"We were just scared – nothing else but scared."

Mr Guo checked to make sure the female driver and young male passenger were all right.

"It was lucky that it didn’t crash next door because there are three people out in the front there," he says.

The couple has owned the shop for about six months and has a young son who was not there at the time.

Mr Guo was glad that no one was hurt but is now worried about the damage to his business.

Sergeant Ian Brenchley from Waitakere’s strategic traffic unit says the accident could have been a lot worse.

"No one was injured but the car could easily have struck a pedestrian or customer," he says.

Police are investigating.
