A future in politics could be on the horizon for former All Black Inga Tuigamala.

The Glendene resident has no immediate plans to run for Parliament – despite media speculation – but admits he’s open to the idea.

"I’d be prepared to listen and learn and see what’s on offer," he says. "But I’m so busy with different things at the moment that I wouldn’t have the time right now."

The Tuigamala and Sons Funeral Services owner has just opened a health centre focused on providing cheap exercise for the Pacific Island community.

Inspiring his people to achieve high levels of success is a big motivating factor for him.

And a political career could also help him help others.

"I’d be stupid to rule it out," he says.

"A lot of our kids love to dream. And I want to inspire them to think that nothing is impossible and provide them with a pathway to achieve their dreams.

"If I could be a successful sportsman over 20 years then others can too."

Inga says the Plantation Health and Fitness centre on Portage Rd will be an exercise facility-cum-community focal point and will be run by ex-cop Nick Tuitasi.

"Nick has huge expertise working with troubled youth," he says. "There was nothing like this when we were young.

"There are so many negative options out there for kids so hopefully we can create a place where they will feel a sense of community."

The centre will include an after-school fitness programme for teenagers run by boxer Shane Cameron’s trainer Lolo Hemiuli.

"Lolo is renowned throughout the world for training kick boxers like Ray Sefo," Inga says.

"And we’ll also be teaching the kids goal setting, how to eat well and look after themselves."
