A McDonald’s outlet at Westgate has been given a D grading by council inspectors after concerns over hygiene.
Council spokesman Alan Ahmu says the fastfood restaurant was visited in September.
"It was one of our normal random inspections and we found their cleaning wasn’t up to scratch," he says.
"There was also some minor maintenance things they had to do."
Mr Ahmu says it’s rare for well known outlets like McDonald’s to be found breaching food safety standards.
"But it comes down to the person in charge at the time and whether they follow procedures."
McDonald’s has now applied for a regrading but management won’t comment.
The Tofuman Seafoods Shop also has a D – slightly better than the E grade it got in October 2008.
