One epic book about Waitakere wasn't enough for photographer Ted Scott.
So the Karekare resident set about snapping shots for a second.
Spirit of the West is his latest collaboration with mayor Bob Harvey.
It follows on from Untamed Coast and includes about 190 images of waterfalls, beaches, bush, people and animals
Ted loves landscape photography and says the self-published book showcases stunning scenery.
"It's a celebration of the heritage area," the 68-year-old says.
Most of the photos were taken between December 2008 and July this year.
Ted took his first photograph when he was 12 and growing up in England.
He worked in the print industry and moved to New Zealand in 1981.
The father of two started painting as a hobby after losing his job during the 1987 stock market crash.
He won a Telecom Art Award in 1989 and used the prize money to purchase photography gear.
Ted indulged in his lifelong passion and has worked as a freelancer every since.
"It's a bit like being an actor and not knowing when your next film or project will come along."
The grandfather of one also has a series of greeting cards.
Email info@heritagepublishing.co.nz or phone 812-8859 for a copy of the book which is available at some west Auckland shops and galleries.
Piha Gallery, Karekare Surf Club and the Waitakere Ranges Protection Society are also selling it as a fundraiser.
