Art buff Katrina Ward is out to prove that teachers are not just handy in the classroom.
The Henderson resident passes on her knowledge to students at Marist College and is organising an exhibition for fellow teachers to display their work.
"There's this stigma that suggests if you can't be an artist then you may as well be a teacher," she says.
"I want to expose that as being a myth. You can be both."
The show, One Night Wonder, takes place on the top floor of the Lopdell House gallery in Titirangi on March 27 and 28.
Katrina originally intended to show only her paintings.
"Then I thought that maybe there are a lot of other educators in the same boat who don't have time to get a full body of work together but want to exhibit what they do have," she says.
"There are ceramics, prints, drawings, photographs, glass pieces and sculptures – all sorts of things," Katrina says.
The pieces will be on sale throughout the weekend.
