Heard of Pecha Kucha? If not – don't worry you're not alone.

The word is Japanese for chit chat and it is also the name of an upcoming showcase being held tomorrow night as part of the Going West Books and Writers Festival.

The event involves 14 presenters from the design, art and creative fields who have six minutes and 40 seconds to give a talk and slideshow of no more than 20 images.

Photographer Liz March has been part the audience for a Pecha Kucha event but will be presenting for the first time this Friday.

She will be talking about her experiences photographing authors and journalists for a book called Words Chosen Carefully.

She was commissioned by the book's editor Siobhan Harvey, who is also presenting at Pecha Kucha, to capture each writer featured.

The Bethells Beach resident travelled around the country in June last year to complete the project and says she "absolutely loved" the experience.

Organiser Luka Hinse says it's important to have a variety of people participating.

"If you have 14 architects or 14 fashion designers it's just going to get boring. But we've got a nice mix."

The event is tomorrow, 7.30pm at the Waitakere City Council chambers and door tickets are $9.
