JET SETTER: Daniel Mettam is going from Green Bay High School back to the race circuits of Europe.

While his fellow Green Bay High School students are preparing assignments Daniel Mettam is readying himself for another ride in the European Junior Cup – the Superbike World Championship's age-group competition.

The inaugural series sees riders from 10 different countries racing in front of crowds of up to 100,000.

The young bikers ride on the same racetracks that stars Troy Corser and Max Biaggi contend.

The 15-year-old is third after two rounds and will compete at Aragon in Spain on June 19.

Mettam says he's looking forward to the race.

"All of the riders get on well.

"There is only one guy who can't speak English so we are making it our goal to teach him."

Mettam says he is surprised by his performances, including a second place in round one, considering the talent of his rivals.

"I didn't think I would be running in the top five right now.

"The races are really tough and aggressive but still a great experience," he says.

The Oratia resident has been a rising talent in his sport since taking it up as a 13-year-old.

Mettam was invited to the MotoGP Rookies Cup trials last year before being offered a chance in the European Junior Cup.

His father Glenn, who travels with Daniel, says he's prepared if he's invited back.

"At this stage it looks to be about an 80 percent chance Daniel will be go back next year and if so it could be he is going back on his own."
