Rosita Vai returns to singing
It's been a long time since New Zealand Idol winner Rosita Vai has belted out her soul songs at Henderson's Zeal Youth Centre.
But the songstress and 10 other performers are looking forward to entertaining the crowd at the Faith Collaboration concert tomorrow to raise money for the Henderson Salvation Army.
Salvation Army Waitakere senior associate pastor Ano Lo Tam says more money is needed to keep up with the charity's operational costs.
"This financial situation means there is a big demand for our services but less money coming in to fund it."
The charity provides services to needy West Aucklanders including a foodbank, youth leadership programmes, a music academy and budgeting services.
Miss Vai won the New Zealand Idol television contest in 2005.
She's in awe of the hard work the Salvation Army does to support the community.
"I really love what they are doing.
"They've got awesome outreach programmes and I was lucky enough to spend some time with a team from the music academy," she says.
"Years ago, pre New Zealand Idol, Zeal gave us the opportunity to perform and so now it's our turn to give back."
Other acts performing at the all-ages concert include Jamoa Jam, Giant Killa, Sienna, Tatau dance group and special guest Miss Samoa New Zealand.
The concert runs from 6.30pm to 10.30pm at Zeal West, 20 Alderman Dr, Henderson.
Tickets are $25 and available on the door.
