The SPCA has issued a set of guidelines to help people make sure their pets are kept safe during Halloween celebrations.

No treats for your pets: Lollies and chocolate are toxic to cats and dogs. Sugar-free lollies can also cause health problems

Think twice about dress-ups: Dressing up your pet is discouraged. However, if you do, you should make sure they don't have an allergic reaction to the costume and that it fits properly

Keep pets away from the front door: A steady stream of people in strange costumes can distress a pet. Keep them in a separate room with someone to look after them

Keep the collars on: Make sure your cat or dog is wearing identification or is microchipped so if they do escape, getting them back is much easier.
