The sounds of the West City Concert Band will help march in another Anzac Day in Titirangi.

Musical director of The West City Concert Band (WCCB), Chad Davenport, said they had been playing at the Titirangi Returned and Services' Association (RSA) Anzac service for more than 20 years - or for as long as some of the oldest band members could remember.

This year the 40-year-old band would play for the service's march and post-service entertainment, Davenport said.

The Titirangi RSA Anzac day service will be held at the Titirangi War Memorial Hall. Titirangi RSA patron Dave Lawrence said they were expecting around 800 people on the day.

He said it was special because it was celebrating around 100 years since World War I.

The Massey resident said the band had about 50 musicians and they also had a youth band with about 35 members.

Davenport said the band included brass, wood-wind and percussion instruments.

The West City Concert Band will play at the Titirangi RSA's Anzac service march and post-service entertainment, musical director Chad Davenport said.

"It's like an orchestra just without the string section."

Davenport said they would play hymns and a 100-year-old march piece, The Voice of the Guns, by Kenneth Alford at the Anzac service.

Titirangi RSA patron Dave Lawrence said the event had been running at the Titirangi War Memorial Hall since 1965 and the RSA's service had been running since around the 1930's.

They used to cart the chairs up to the top of the hill, he said.

The memorial was erected on the top of the hill in 1917 and was funded by Henry Atkinson, the New Zealand History website said.

Lawrence said they were expecting around 800 people on the day.

He said the day was important to remember all those that have served, and because New Zealanders were still serving overseas.

A choir made up of students from Kaurilands Primary School, Titirangi Primary School, Woodlands Park Primary and Green Bay Primary School would perform at the service, he said.
