It was an unlucky Friday the 13th for a Glen Eden shop owner after an unwelcome guest threw an explosive device into his business.
At 1pm the device exploded in The Money Guy shop in Glenmall.
Henderson senior station officer Steve Callagher says there was still smoke when they arrived.
"It looks like someone has thrown it in and then ran according to what witnesses said.
"We are unable to say what it was," Mr Callagher says.
No customers were in the shop at the time.
Pet Shop Boyz owner Ian Burkett says he felt the impact from across the road.
Police are searching for a man who is described as 1.7 metres tall, European or light-skinned Maori or Pacific Islander.
He was wearing a green hooded sweatshirt, denim shorts, black socks and sunglasses.
Phone Henderson police 839 0600 with information.
