Stand-in No 1 Jackson Bodle proved he is more than capable of taking on that mantle for Blockhouse Bay last Friday in a top-of-the-table Caro Bowl clash against West End.
The 20-year-old was deputising for the missing Marcus Daniell and pulled off a win over Adam Thompson in three tough sets.
Teenage No 4 Marco Comuzzo also had a victory over Teo Susnjak but that was as good as it got for the Bay as they posted a 4-2 loss. Captain Eru Lyndon fell to Mark Neilsen while Marc Paulik succumbed to Alistair Hunt.
Thompson and Wesley Whitehouse combined to beat Bodle and Comuzzo in the doubles while Eru and Paulik also got no joy out of their match against Nielsen and James Greenhalgh.
The Bay are now fourth on the table and welcome Campbell Park to their Rathlin St home on Friday from 6pm.
