216 not enough

Cracking the 200 mark with the bat wasn’t enough to give Eden Roskill their first win of the Jeff Crowe Cup one-day club cricket competition on Saturday.
While most other premier sides struggled to post imposing scores, Eden Roskill managed 216-7 batting first against Takapuna at Onewa Domain.
In-form batsman Brad Staddon again led the way for the visitors with 44, while Anand Mitha, 42, and Vivek Trichy, 33, also offered useful contributions.
But any hope of an Eden Roskill win soon disappeared thanks to a 181-run partnership between Shaun McCann, 94, and Ryan Scivier, 71no, which saw Takapuna cruise to a seven wicket win.
Meanwhile, a top-order collapse didn’t help Cornwall’s cause in their two wicket loss to Suburbs New Lynn at Cornwall Park.
Batting first proved disastrous for the home team, who were 16-5 after nine overs, thanks in part to 6-27 from young all-rounder Jimmy Neesham.
Eventually a 99-run partnership between Matt Davies, 71no, and Paresh Vallabh, 50, saw Cornwall scrape together 182.
Suburbs made hard work of the chase, but a solid 67no from Darren Eckford steered his team to 185-8.
Grafton also struggled during their match against the unbeaten Howick Pakuranga, managing just 105 in reply to Howick Pakuranga’s 174 at Victoria Park.
Results – Eden Roskill 216-7 (Brad Staddon 44, Anand Mitha 42, Vivek Trichy 33, Greg Johnson 3-35) lost to Takapuna 219-3 (Shaun McCann 94, Ryan Scivier 75no) by seven wickets
Cornwall 182-10 (Matt Davies 71no, Paresh Vallabh 50, Jimmy Neesham 6-27) lost to Suburbs New Lynn 185-8 (Darren Eckford 67no) by two wickets.
Howick Pakuranga 174-10 (Jamie Newth 43, Jarred Cunningham 4-22, Ankur Mistry 3-61) defeated Grafton Utd 105-10 (Joey Zanich 39no, Matt Carter 3-15) by 69 runs.
