Cornwall on back foot

Slow but steady was the order of the day for Cornwall on day one of their Hedley Howarth Trophy white section clash with North Shore at Cornwall Park on Saturday.
Despite plenty of batsmen getting starts, only Paresh Vallabh, 32, made it past the 30 mark as the home side ground out a first innings total of 215.
North Shore will be looking to claim first innings points when they resume next Saturday on 41-0. Meanwhile in the blue section, Grafton United’s first innings effort of 171 has put Papatoetoe in the driver’s seat at the Papatoetoe Recreation Ground.
Jordan Thompson led the way for Papatoetoe with 4-22 as Grafton struggled to get any fluidity going during their time at the crease.
Captain Gareth Shaw led the way for the home side as they made their way comfortably to 91-3, just 81 runs short of first innings points when the match resumes next week.
At Keith Hay Park it was not a good day for batsmen, with Eden Roskill and Waitakere City failing to reach 100 on a day when 21 wickets fell.
The home side had the worst start possible, collapsing to 7-3, before eventually fighting back to be all out for just 90. Aces player Keeley Todd led the charge for Waitakere City’s bowling attack claiming 3-18.
But Eden Roskill player-coach Azhar Abbas kept his side in the match, taking 6-25 in an innings that saw the visitors dismissed for a paltry 47.
Eden Roskill still had time to get out in the middle and add another 31 for the loss of one wicket to extend their lead to 74. An outright result looks like a certainty next weekend.
Scoreboards:
Cornwall 215 (Paresh Vallabh 32, James Fuller 3-43) playing North Shore 41-0 after one day.
Grafton United 171 (Jarred Cunningham 36, Jordan Thompson 4-22) playing Papatoetoe 91-3 (Gareth Shaw 34no) after one day.
Eden Roskill 90 (Scott Ellis 30, Keeley Todd 3-18) and 31-1 playing Waitakere City 47 (Azhar Abbas 6-25) after day one.
