Misfits gel to win tennis tournament

The Warkworth Misfits "warked" away with the Rodney mixed grade tennis competition leaving in their wake 13 teams from Mangawhai, Wellsford, Warkworth, Leigh and Snells Beach.
The tournament was run over eight weeks prior to Christmas.
The appropriately named Misfits were thrown together a week before the competition started.
They gelled immediately and went through unbeaten to claim the 2009 interclub title.
Led by David Theyers, the team was made up of Jonathon Boundy, Leonie Meredith and Jeanine Gravatt.
Warkworth also claimed the second spot with the Warkworth Sportsworld side improving markedly on their 2008 placing when they trailed the field.
Captain Joyce Marshall led the team of Benji Tipace, Keiko Pogoni, Rick Notley and Alastair Pearce.
Final points in division one were Misfits 32, Sportsworld 23, Curtain Specialists 22, Young Ones 19, Not Just Hats 16, Wellsford 14, and Goat Is Dive 12.
In section two Warkworth was again to the fore with the Warkworth Composite Joinery side coming through unbeaten.
Players were Connie Julyan captain, Roz Callender, Jan Bottema and Thomas Mischler.
They beat Warkworth Menswear for the title.
Team points for section two were Composite Joinery 30, Menswear 27, Total Span 23, Snells Beach 18, Mangawhai 10 and Flooring Xtra 1.
