Tasty treats to help the SPCA
Whangarei SPCA will have their cake and eat it too during the first annual Cupcake Day.
Held on August 31, it is a new national SPCA fundraising event, where people are encouraged to bake cupcakes for their friends, family and colleagues to enjoy in return for a donation to the local SPCA.
Hikurangi resident and Kiwicakes owner Sandra Boston is supporting the event by creating some delicious and beautiful cupcakes to sell. She is also giving every person who purchases baking equipment from her website www.kiwicakes.co.nz a free gift. She says for every $2 cupcake sold, she will match that amount.
Mrs Boston says she is supporting the event because she loves animals and has always admired the work done by the SPCA.
"They don’t get much government funding, so they need all the help they can get," says Mrs Boston.
Whangarei SPCA’s Andrea Honeybun says they have a lot of puppies to look after at the moment and nine cats have just been flown up from Wellington SPCA where they have more than 150.
Ms Honeybun says every dollar collected by Whangarei residents goes to the local SPCA.
Cupcake cooks must register online or at the local SPCA. They will receive a cupcake kit, then fundraisers bake up a storm and send the donations collected to the SPCA.
