Is Ryan Gosling in Auckland?
Is he or isn't he? Social media has been set alight by rumours Hollywood heavyweight Ryan Gosling is cruising around Auckland.
Early this afternoon, Twitter exploded with possible sightings of the Ides of March star on Ponsonby Rd, before World clothing tweeted the actor had been in their Britomart store. Many Auckland Twitter users began a hunt for the star under the hashtag #NZGoslingHunt. The term quickly became a trending topic in New Zealand.
Staff would not confirm or deny if he had visited the store.
Gosling has been spotted in South Africa and the SXSW music showcase in Texas this week.
The actor was supposedly spotted at Auckland's Hilton Hotel, eating breakfast there this morning, but was not staying at the five-star, waterfront accommodation.
A photo was posted on Facebook by Nz StyleCollective of what one witness claims was Gosling at Didas on Jervois Rd, Ponsonby at lunchtime.
Gosling has inspired a wave of blogs on social networking website Tumblr which play on his heartthrob status, including this Hey Girl, I Love New Zealand account.
The actor is best known for his role in The Notebook, and has also starred in films including Half Nelson, Blue Valentine and Crazy, Stupid, Love.
The 31-year-old has visited New Zealand before, filming the TV series Young Hercules here when he was 18.
If he is in Auckland, he would be joining fellow American actors Mathew Fox and Tommy Lee Jones who are here working on the film Emperor. And pop superstar Taylor Swift is expected to arrive in Auckland on Thursday ahead of three Vector Arena shows this weekend.
