One is a Glaswegian band known for their 1980s power hits, the other pioneered the new wave movement.  And come December 15, Simple Minds and Devo will join forces for a one-off New Zealand show at Villa Maria Estate Winery in Auckland.

Over an epic career spanning more than 30 years, Simple Minds have sold more than 40 million albums and released hits including Don't You (Forget About Me), Alive and Kicking and Glittering Prize.

The have played London's Wembley Arena three times and have been voted the World's Best Live Act by Q Magazine.

Meanwhile Devo have been cited as influencing everyone from Lady Gaga to Rage Against The Machine.

Kurt Cobain once said: "Of all the bands who came from the underground and actually made it in the mainstream, Devo is the most challenging and subversive of all."

The four-piece began as an extension of a multi-media exploration of the concept that mankind's progress had ceased, and the process of de-evolution had begun. Their early work caught the attention of icons Brian Eno and David Bowie, and hits like Whip It and Girl U Want made the band one of the defining acts of the 1980s.

Simple Minds and Devo will be joined by Australian band The Church for the winery show, which is part of the Day On The Green season.

Tickets on sale July 2. Children under 12 free when accompanied by an adult.
