She is known as the surly teen in TV's Outrageous Fortune but now Antonia Prebble may be hitting the big screens across America in a film represented by the agent for Brad Pitt.

The trailer for The Cure, filmed in Wellington, starring Prebble and directed by David Gould, has been released this week.

Gould will this month travel to the American Film Market to try to sell the film to the massive United States film market.

''Several international sales agents have already shown strong interest,'' he said.

The Cure was filmed last year in Wellington and Upper Hutt, with Prebble and Australian actor Daniel Lissing.

Wellington doubles as San Diego in the film, and the actors play Americans.

The feature film is about a biochemist (Prebble) who discovers that the company she works for has developed the cure for cancer, but instead of releasing it they decided to keep it secret.

Earlier this year The Dominion Post reported Gould had been picked up by talent agency CAA, which represents Brad Pitt, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jennifer Aniston, among others.

''I know I'm in the very best hands,'' Gould said.

At the Los Angeles film fair, which runs from October 29 to November 6, he will meet the agency and also pitch his next feature film, ''an action-adventure film in the style of Highlander''.

Gould, an Australian, has worked with Weta Digital on Lord of the Rings, King Kong, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and The Adventures of Tintin, in between making the short films Awaken and Inseparable Coil in Australia.

The Cure is yet to secure a New Zealand distributor and still needs to be scored and sound designed.

It is expected to be released in New Zealand some time next year.
