Australian Idol star Stan Walker has been confirmed as the first judge for X Factor New Zealand.

The announcement came this morning at the MediaWorks 2013 season launch.

Described as New Zealand's biggest entertainment programme ever made, the show will be hosted by Dominic Bowden.

Walker said he was looking forward to coming home to find some great Kiwi talent.

"I came here because I know the best talent is here," Walker said. "I'm excited to discover these gems that haven't been seen yet.

"But I think I'll be as nervous as the contestants.

"I don't lose anything. I'm willing to do anything to win."

Along with the reality singing show, a host of local drama and comedy has been confirmed for Kiwi TV screens next year.

Almighty Johnsons will return for a third series, along with a new series of The Block and New Zealand's Hottest Home Baker.

TV3 will also feature more local drama than ever before including a new cop series, Harry, starting Oscar Kightley and Sam Neil, and Hope and Wire, a six-part series set in Christchurch in the wake of the February earthquake.

The Blue Rose, from the creators of Outrageous Fortune, will also screen next year.
