Cat Power has announced a New Zealand tour for 2013.

The singer - born Chan Marshall - released her ninth album, Sun, in September. It is her first release of original material since critical hit The Greatest in 2006.

Marshall recently postponed her European tour due to a flare up of angioedema, a condition that causes rapid swelling of body tissue. She had previously hinted the tour could be cancelled due to bankruptcy, before confirming it would go ahead with a stripped-back production.

Sun debuted at number 10 on the Billboard charts, which is the singer's highest chart placing. The album was recorded over three years in a Malibu studio Marshall built herself, as well in Miami and Paris.

This will be her first New Zealand shows since 2008.
