MARY POPPINS: Hit musical takes off in Auckland.

The gifts have been ripped open, and probably already discarded, so unless you're Super Nanny, there's a fair chance you're already out of ideas to keep the kids occupied over the school holidays. Here are a few activities to keep the kids entertained.

There are just a few days left to see this world-class musical at The Civic Theatre. With the songs everyone knows and loves, the production has won over audiences around the world, and New Zealand has been no different. Catch it while you can.

Dare to Explore - Auckland Libraries Summer Reading Adventure  

If it's books that make your little ones smile, Auckland libraries have a reading adventure that lasts all summer. Featuring activities that can be done at home, at the library or on the internet, it's easy to keep them entertained.

In2it - Street Games
Rather than a holiday spent on the couch, these free sessions get kids up and active in local parks and public spaces, including beach cricket with Auckland Cricket. It's about getting out there and having fun, not winning.

Family Fun Days

Still outside, these fun days out are the perfect excuse for young and old alike to have a run around at the end of summer.

Splash Break-Away Holiday Programme

Water is always a big part of the Kiwi summer, and this is a chance for kids to increase their water confidence and skills in a safe environment, while making new friends.

Imagination Factory at MOTAT

Crossing the Tasman from Australia's National Science and Technology Centre Questacon, this hands-on exhibition let's visitors explore basic mechanical tools and figure out how they can create ingenious inventions.

Kiwi Summer of Family Fun
Every weekday at Voyager Museum kids can find something fun to do, whether it's making arts, crafts and kites, learning to fish, sandcastle competitions or a day on one of the museum's vessels. Each activity will be repeated during the two week programme.

Basil the Dinosaur's Weird and Wonderful Tours

Basil, Auckland Museum's resident dinosaur, isn't taking a break this summer.  Instead he's hosting exclusive tours of some of his favourite weird and wonderful treasures hidden around his home. His handlers will even tell you some stories behind them.

NZ Children's Animation Showcase

Art exhibitions aren't usually for kids, but this collection of Kiwi animation is perfect. With popular work from Margret Mahy and Linley Dodd stories among the mix, it's sure to inspire and entertain.
