Children and parents from six schools in the Western Bays gathered last Sunday to take part in the 2012 Westmere Kids Try.

Kids from Richmond Rd Primary, Bayfield Primary and Ponsonby Primary this year joined last year's participants Grey Lynn School, Marist Catholic School Herne Bay and Westmere School, making for a huge turnout of around 900 people.

Among the attendees were some sporting superstars including Olympians Blair Tuke and Sarah Walker.

The Edge radio hosts Jay-Jay Feeney and Dom Harvey kept the formalities moving while the kids ran, biked and slid down a waterslide to compete.

The morning was plenty of fun and all for a good cause, with a percentage of funds raised going towards Royal New Zealand Foundation for the Blind's Guide Dog services and the balance being put towards completing the Westmere School Hall.
