The band whose album has already been named Best of 2012 by critics will join the line-up for Laneyway Festival in January.

Festival organisers say they have been chasing Australia's Tame Impala for more than two years, trying to convince them to play in Auckland.

And on the back of their second album, Lonerism, the psychedelic band has agreed and will play the festival on Auckland Anniversary Day.

Lonerism has already been named album of the year by NME and Triple J.

Also joining the line-up are Wellington band The Eversons.

They join international acts including Bat for Lashes, Yeasayer and Of Monsters And Men for the one-day festival, scheduled to take place in Auckland on anniversary weekend.

WHEN: January 28

WHERE: Wynyard Quarter
