Stephen Colbert has kicked off his Hobbit week by sharing his second breakfast table with Ian McKellen in his newly Hobbiton styled studio.

The Colbert Report host proudly revealed that director Peter Jackson said about him that he had never met a bigger Tolkien geek in his life.

"You hear that, girls from middle school?" Colbert quipped. "I'm not a geek - I'm King Geek. Buddy, just hang in there for another 35 years.

In his conservative pundit character he challenged McKellen's engagement for gay rights. "Here's my beef with you...You don't just make gay seem acceptable...You make it seem heroic. Are you the sharp knifepoint of the gay agenda trying to brainwash our children?"

McKellen then told Colbert about a Hobbit sequel that was in the works. "You know we're making a sequel, in Middle-earth," he said. "It is going to star Gandalf the Gay and you get to find out who is his favourite dwarf."

He also reveals who would win a fight: Magneto or Gandalf.

Colbert has been rumoured to have scored a cameo in one of the Hobbit movies.
