Top chefs in Restaurant Month
Some of the biggest names in food are coming together to celebrate the local restaurant scene.
Auckland Restaurant Month will feature more than 100 eateries from around the city, all offering specials and tailored menus during August - that's up from the 60 restaurants that took part in 2011.
The event will kick off with a ticketed public launch at Everybody's in Imperial Lane on August 1, with a selection of restaurants taking part in a travelling degustation-style event.
Every Wednesday night during the month, local and international celebrity chefs will be taking over the kitchen and recreating the dishes they are most famous for in some of Auckland's most popular restaurants, including Euro and District Dining.
While most of the big names are yet to be confirmed, Monica Galetti from London restaurant Le Gavroche has been pencilled in to cook at The Grove on August 22.
Galetti, who was born in Samoa but grew up in New Zealand, is the senior sous chef at the Michelin-star wining chef Michel Roux Jr's restaurant, and has appeared MasterChef UK.
All events throughout the month are open to the public, but it will be first in, first served for tickets.
As well as that public events and activities will run throughout Auckland's dining precincts, including Britomart, the Viaduct and North Wharf for the month.
Food lovers can also enter a draw to win $10,000 worth of dining for a year just by eating at one of the participating restaurants.
Auckland Restaurant Month runs throughout August.
