REVIEW: Kebabs are hit and miss. And in Auckland it seems too often they miss. A lot of the time it doesn't really matter because the consumption is taking place in the wee hours of the morning in the city, with the kebab acting as a sponge to soak up alcohol.

But when one has their wits about them, there's nothing more disappointing than a crap kebab and nothing better than a good one. So, let us tell you about the perfect spot to get some top notch Lebanese eats in the city.

Shefco Cedar Bakery on Dominion Rd doesn't look like a kebab shop from the outside. The name doesn't scream falafel either, but step inside and you'll marvel at the varied and authentic menus on the wall.

There are breakfast and dinner menus with a large selection of plates and platters on offer. They also have some mouth-watering pastries at a ridiculously good price.

Greeted by Rahim, the friendly manager, we ordered a lamb kebab, a falafel kebab, a falafel platter and a combination plate (lamb and chicken). An apple tea was also thrown in for good measure.

Everything was delicious. From the bread (made on site and supplied to several Auckland kebab shops) to the homemade hummus and falafel it all was tasty, fresh and a step up from your standard kebab shop fare.

The plates were impressive, decent in size and cost. They came with salad, yellow rice and some amazing garlic toum dip. The toum is not for the faint hearted and packs a real punch, so if you're concerned about returning to the office with garlic breath it is advised you have mints on hand.

The falafel was a stand-out, moist and light with a subtle note of cinnamon. Some of the best we've had, so too the bread that held it all together.

Shefco doubles as a deli so while you're there pick up some of their famous Lebanese bread and other goodies.

We noticed some negative feedback appearing on the internet in regards to service, but we found the staff to be friendly, the food spot on. Shefco Cedar bakery comes with highest recommendation from us.
