The newly opened Ponsonby Central complex is now home to the reincarnation of Dante's Pizzeria Napoletana.
In its previous life this popular little store was located out in the Huapai shops and such was its popularity, people would trek out just to grab a slice. Its new central location means those of you living in Auckland's inner burbs will no longer need to trek anywhere and you're all the more lucky for it.
Dante's pizzas are made the traditional Napoletana way and they are New Zealand's only pizzeria to receive membership into the prestigious culinary institute Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana (VPN).
The pizzas here are not cheap, but are fairly generous in size and in flavour, although a little messy to eat - not good first date material.
Given that one of our duo was a vegetarian we went with two meat-free options. One was a traditional margherita and the other similar but enhanced by the addition of halved cherry tomatoes and some rocket.
The fresh buffalo mozzarella was a definite bonus as well as homemade bases and sauce but with the $24 price tag you would expect nothing less.
The staff were friendly and made sure we were enjoying our meal, which we were.
Dante's Pizzeria is a welcome addition to the Ponsonby Rd strip and will no doubt thrive in its new surrounds.
