This week in Auckland
Looking for something to do this week? We check out Auckland's best events and take a sneak peek at next week.
Bledisloe Cup Experience - Saturday
It's almost been a year since the RWC had Auckland in a bear hug, and this Saturday we can almost relive the excitement.
Queens Wharf will once more turn into rugby central as locals get into the Bledisloe spirit. There will be rippa rugby, inflatable castles, face painting and a repeat screening of last weekend's game from 2 - 6pm. Then The Cloud becomes the country's biggest lounge and the perfect place to watch the ABs take on the Wallabies from 7.35pm.
Bledisloe Cup Experience at Queens Wharf, August 25 from 2pm. Entry by gold coin donation.
Pick & Mix: The Conartists - Saturday
These improv kings have been making Kiwis laugh for almost 25 years, and this weekend, you can not only see what they are made of, but also test your own skills. The troupe will perform a completely improvised show at 11am, before hosting a workshop for kids to get their creativity flowing.
Pick & Mix: The Conartists at Aotea Centre, August 25 from 11am. Entry is free.
Pet Expo - All weekend
Billed as the "happiest show of all to attend", Auckland's Pet Expo is the best place for animal lovers to be this weekend. The celebration of the positive role animals play in society, the expo will be full of demonstrations, special features, entertainment and special treats for your furry friend - just make sure you leave them at home.
Pet Expo at North Shore Events Centre, August 25 and 26. Entry $12 for adults, $6 for children or $30 for a family pass.
An Art Auction Evening with Vincent Ward - Thursday
Is there anything that gets the blood pumping like an auction? Why not combine a romantic night out, the excitement of an auction, some stunning art and a worthy cause with this New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation fundraiser? Artist and director Vincent Ward will host the evening, with works by him and other prominent local artists up for grabs.
An Art Auction Evening with Vincent Ward at TSB Bank Wallace Arts Centre, Pah Homestead, August 23 from 6pm. Tickets are $50.
Staying In/ Going Out
It's not a telethon, but its pretty close. Red Nose Day: Comedy For Cure Kids on TV3 is a jam-packed night of funnies, featuring the cast of Outrageous Fortune, the All Blacks, and a very special performance by Flight of the Conchords. Get your wallets open, New Zealand.
Two of the best things about Auckland are Wynyard Quarter and the delicious food being produced here. This weekend locals can combine the two with what has been dubbed the North Wharf Passport. Part of Auckland Restaurant Month, this is an all-access pass to one signature dish from 10 eateries in Wynyard Quarter. Now, if it could just be sunny as well...
