Russell Brand
FIRST LOVE: Russell Brand has made a return to stand-up comedy and will play Vector Arena tonight.

Looking for something to do this week? We check out some of Auckland's best events.

Main Event
Russell Brand: I am a Walrus - Wednesday

Russell Brand is known for being a few things: radio host, actor, ex-husband of Katy Perry and Shagger of the Year (three times). But it's his original love, stand-up comedy, which is bringing him to Auckland this week.

The man with the dirty mouth and cheeky approach is one of the biggest comedians on the planet, and he's about to show Vector Arena just how good he is.

Russell Brand, November 28 at Vector Arena. Tickets from Ticketmaster.

Free Stuff
The Telecom Christmas Tree - from Saturday

Every year it wows locals with its size and this year will be no exception. The Telecom Christmas tree might have moved - it's in Victoria Park now - but with more than 375,000 lights, it's just as bright.

There are the usual extras as well - a direct line to Santa and a spot to leave presents for Auckland City Mission and Kidz First Children's Hospital.

The Telecom Christmas Tree, from December 1 at Victoria Park. Entry is free.

Family Fun
A Wild Night with Bear Grylls - Sunday

The worldwide explorer might not be wrestling dangerous creatures or eating sheep's eyeballs, but he will tell audiences all about it at this live show.

The Man vs. Wild host is one of the most watched TV presenters in the world - the show screens in more that 200 countries and this two hour show will feature footage from it, as well as behind the scenes explanations and tall tales.

A Wild Night with Bear Grylls, December 2 at Vector Arena. Tickets from Ticketmaster.

Date Night
RNZB Giselle - from Thursday

Ballet might not be the obvious choice for a date night, but you might be surprised. The Kiwi dancers prove themselves time and again to be athletes, and Giselle is a darker story than some of the company's more recent offerings, covering all the bases: disguise and revelation, love and jealousy, heartbreak and death. So why not give it a try.

RNZB Giselle, November 29 - December 2 at ASB Theatre. Tickets from Buy Tickets.

Staying In/Going Out

It only lasted one season in the States, but Pan Am is an interesting prospect of a telly show. Set when jetting across oceans was still a novelty, this series has spies, lies and love affairs dressed up in matching uniforms.

Pan Am on TVOne, 9.30pm Saturday

There is something very cool about street food, and the newly opened Ponsonby Central is all about it. With everything from coffee to Latin tastes, you could almost name the flavour and it would be there waiting for you.

Ponsonby Central, 136 Ponsonby Rd
