VECTOR SHOW: Ex-Smiths front man Morrissey will play Auckland on Saturday night.

Looking for something to do at the weekend or over the days ahead? We check out some of Auckland's best events.

Main Event
Morrissey - Saturday

Performing in New Zealand for the first time in 20 years, no fan can afford to miss Morrissey this weekend. Tagged with the honour of creating indie music for the masses, the former Smiths front man will make you laugh, but mainly cry, as he works through his illustrious back catalogue.

Morrissey live at Vector Arena, December 15. Tickets from Ticketmaster.

Free Stuff
Big Day Art - Saturday

Auckland Art Gallery is celebrating summer and the reopening of the Creative Learning Centre installation, May the Rainbow Always Touch Your Shoulder, with a day of hands on fun. All you need do is wear yellow to get into the seasonal mood.

Big Day Art at Auckland Art Gallery, from 10am - 4pm on December 15. Entry is free.

Family Fun
SkyCity Breakers vs. Cairns Taipans - Thursday

Any Breakers home game is exciting, but when you throw it all into Vector Arena, it gets even more highly charged. Get behind the local lads as they take on the Cairns Taipans in the last home game of the year.

SkyCity Breakers vs. Cairns Taipans at Vector Arena, Decembers 13. Tickets from Ticketmaster.

Date Night
Megachristmas - starts Wednesday

Kim Dotcom as Santa Claus. It's just too good to miss. Throw in the likes of Shortland Street's Beth Allen, Pua Magasiva and Harry McNaughton, and people about town David Farrier, Jacinda Ardern and Kimberley Crossman, and you have Megachristmas - a rather exciting looking yuletide panto. The cast changes every night, so you might even need to go twice.

Megachristmas at Basement Theatre, from December 12 - 22. Tickets $35 from iTicket.

Staying In/Going Out

Sure, Glee has probably jumped the shark this season but any patriotic Kiwi has to tune in when the show choir series covers one of our own. This week it's Crowded House's legendary Don't Dream It's Over. Tweens of the world, meet Mr Neil Finn.

Combine wine, music and (hopefully) sunshine at the first vineyard show of the season. Simple Minds and Devo will entertain the crowd at Villa Maria Estate as they lap up the Auckland summer.

Glee is on Four, December 11 at 7.30pm. Simple Minds and Devo: A Day on the Green at Villa Maria Estate, December 15.
