SAY IT AIN'T SO: Weezer will play their first album Blue from start to finish when they come to Vector this week.

Looking for something to do this weekend or in the days ahead? We check out Auckland's best events.

Main Event
Weezer - Friday

It's been 16 long years since Weezer graced Kiwi fans with their presence but the wait is about to end. The band returns to Auckland this week to perform a collection of their greatest hits, as well as The Blue Album from start to finish.

Given how long it has taken them to return, this is a show not to be missed.

Weezer at Vector Arena, January 11.  Tickets from $99.90 from Ticketmaster.

Family Fun
HRV Cup Twenty 20: Auckland Aces v Stags - Tuesday

The Auckland Aces are the defending champs of the HRV Cup and they are more than ready to defend their title this summer. Take your family - kids under 16 are free - and watch the teams battle to get one step closer to that trophy.

HRV Cup Twenty 20 at Eden Park, from 4pm on January 15.  Tickets $15 for adults, free for children under 16.

Free Stuff

The New Rainbow Warrior - Saturday and Sunday

This weekend Aucklanders have the chance to jump aboard and explore the new Rainbow Warrior - one of the most environmentally friendly ships ever built. At close to 58 metres long, the ship was funded by donations, including $300,000 from Kiwis and the crew from Greenpeace will be on hand to answer any questions

The New Rainbow Warrior at Princes Wharf, January 12 and 13. Entry is free.

Date Night
Summer Music at Cornwall Park - Sunday

Forget date nights at this time of year. Instead, enjoy love and the sun with date afternoons. And nothing is sweeter than a sunny day in Cornwall Park, complete with its own soundtrack, like Ze Jazz, who will perform hot jazz standards from the 1920s, 30s and 40s this Sunday.

Summer Music at Cornwall Park band rotunda, from 1pm on January 13. Entry is free.

Staying In/Going Out

One thing we were delivered this summer - apart from some delicious weather - was a healthy dose of The Block Australia. Say what you will about reality telly, but this is one addictive show - thank goodness it's on five nights a week then.

And if you like a bit of music with your drama, then get thee to a cinema. Les Misérables is finally here, in all its Anne Hathaway/Hugh Jackman/Russell Crowe glory. Reviews have been mixed to say the least, so the only way to really know is to see (or hear) it for yourself

The Block Australia, 7.30pm weeknights on TV3. Les Misérables opens in cinemas on January 10.
