Main Event

Auckland Fringe 2013 - starts Friday

From water ballet to online conversation art, off-the-wall theatre to musical madness, Auckland Fringe is a feast of the odd and the wonderful. There are free events (including Fringe in the Park at Myers Park this Saturday), already sold-out shows (like the Wet Hot Beauties water ballet) and everything in between. This is three weeks where Auckland is better, just outside the lines.

Auckland Fringe 2013 at various locations around Auckland from February 15 - March 10. Find the full programme at www.aucklandfringe.org.nz

Family Fun

NZSO: Tan Dun Martial Arts Trilogy - Friday

Orchestra music doesn't always get the kids excited. But when you combine some of the country's finest musicians with the man behind the soundtracks of the best martial art films, it's a different prospect. Academy Award-winning composer Tan Dun will conduct the NZSO as they cover the scores for films like Hero and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, which will play behind them.

NZSO: Tan Dun Martial Arts Trilogy at The Civic, February 15. Tickets from $65.

Free Stuff

Auckland Art Gallery's 125 Year Anniversary Celebrations at the corner of Kitchener and Wellesley streets, from 9am on February 17. Entry is free.

Date Night

The Princess Bride - Thursday

There are all sorts of ways you could show you care this Valentine's Day, but why not choose a special screening of The Princess Bride at Silo Cinema for some under-the-stars cuddles. There will be the usual food, drink and merriment, with added "awwww" moments.

The Princess Bride at Silo Park, markets open from 5pm, movie starts at 9pm on February 14. Entry is free.

Staying In/Going Out

Australia has a habit of churning out very watchable telly, and the latest offering is no different. House Husbands takes a peek into the lives of four average dads trying to keep things under control. The first episode started with a couple of five-year-olds stealing a school bus, so who knows where it will go from there.

Ad Feedback

The biggest party of the week will almost certainly be the one winding its way down Ponsonby Rd on Saturday afternoon. The Auckland Pride Parade is the highlight of the city's Pride Festival, celebrating Auckland and all her diversity. Ponsonby's main strip will be closed to traffic from midday, with the main event kicking off at 4pm.

House Husbands on TV One, 8.30pm, February 17.
Auckland Pride Parade on Ponsonby Rd, from 4pm, February 16. The event is free to watch.
