For the moaners near Wellington's Karori Wildlife Sanctuary - get a life and enjoy nature!

The Karori Wildlife Sanctuary has done wonders for our native wildlife. To think that there are a few Wellingtonians out there who are complaining about the sound of the Tui angers me. They are a beautiful bird and their sound is almost tranquil. They need to get a grip. Maybe we should start breeding Roosters in Wellington and see how they like that sound! Leave the Tui alone it is one of the most beautiful birds in New Zealand.

Well some poor people in Wellington are definitely not in touch with the real world around them, if they want to complain about the dawn chorus. I have lived & worked around Wellington city for 59 years,( although we have recently moved to Otaki ), and I am constantly amazed at the increase in the native bird life in the inner city; tuis, bellbirds, kereru flying around all day in parts of the inner streets. these were definitely not around for most of the last 100 yrs or so!!! We too were woken early by the birds up here, as we are surrounded by rimu, totara, pohutukawa, and a dozen other varieties of trees. but after 6 months, we find that they become part of the background to be enjoyed and shared with other everyday modern noises- cars, helicopters. planes etc. I suggest that these people turn off their radio/I-pod, alarms, and allow themselves the pleasure of laying in bed for a while to appreciate the sounds of nature before they have to go and get deafened by the sounds of mankind !
