A former Taranaki real estate agent has handed in his licence after complaints to the industry's independent watchdog.
A Lepperton couple, owed $12,600 by the agent, Mark Ferguson, have applied to put him into bankruptcy. Roslynn Goodall said Mr Ferguson's resignation had come too late to protect others.
She believed he should not have been permitted to continue selling after the Real Estate Agents Authority was first alerted to complaints about him.
Mr Ferguson owned the Ray White Tara naki franchise, based in Inglewood, at the time.
Eight clients, all from Taranaki, have filed complaints with the authority. Of those, two have been upheld, three dismissed and action has yet to be taken on three.
Mr Ferguson was ordered by the authority to pay Vince and Ros lynn Goodall $12,600 after he was found to have requested the early release of deposits in relation to a property deal in October 2010.
The complaint stemmed from the failed purchase of a house.
Mrs Goodall said yesterday the experience had left her unhappy.
"I'm very disappointed with the REAA and Ray White. They have allowed someone to keep selling when they have all these complaints against him, leaving others at risk."
The authority was set up to clean up the industry, she said. She believed Mr Ferguson resigned only because of the pressure put on him after they and others went public with their concerns.
Mr Ferguson closed his Inglewood business earlier this year and shifted to Palmerston North, where he was working for JVL Prestige. He has since left the firm.
The Taranaki Daily News could not reach him for comment. Previously he has declined to discuss the complaints made against him.
The Goodalls have filed to have Mr Ferguson made bankrupt. The case is set down to be heard in a Palmerston North court on October 4.
Last week the authority said Mr Ferguson voluntarily surrendered his real estate licence at the end of June and was no longer practising.
