This festive season, Domino's Japan is trying a new method of delivery by training reindeer to transport pizza to customers.

Ever wished Rudolph and his mates could deliver your Christmas presents for real?

Well, in Japan Domino's is training reindeer to deliver the next best thing: pizza.

The reindeer are being trained to deliver pizzas not just in the Christmas spirit, but also in situations where delivery on bikes is less practical.

Christmas is a huge deal in Japan, but aside from trying to bring to life a Western Christmas tradition, the idea was also a possible solution to deliver pizzas during snowy weather.

Each sled will be fitted with a GPS driver tracker so customers can watch the delivery in real time.

Domino's was known for its experiments with delivering pizzas. Last month, the first commercial pizza drone delivery was made to Whangaparaoa, Auckland, after the company announced it would be trialling airborne pizza deliveries in New Zealand.

In England the company announced it was trialling delivery by canoe, and in both the United Kingdom and United States it released a Facebook messaging service where customers could order through the social media platform.
