'Cherished husband' and father Dayal Patel killed in workplace accident at Pegasus Engineering
The man who died after becoming trapped under a beam at a Canterbury workplace was 59-year-old Dayal Parbhu Patel.
The incident happened at Pegasus Engineering, in the Izone Business Hub, Rolleston, about 12.30pm on Friday, June 9.
Police later confirmed he died.
Patel was described in The Press family notices as a "cherished husband" and "much loved dad".
A funeral service was held at the Harewood Crematorium Chapel.
WorkSafe inspectors were investigating, a spokesperson said.
"We will not be able to provide any further information now that we have an investigation under way – the investigation process can take months to complete."
Pegasus Engineering general manager Simon Williamson earlier declined to comment.
The company is the structural steel subcontractor for the new Christchurch Hospital Outpatients building, where a crane driver had a lucky escape after a piece of steel framing fell.
The framing hit the Leighs Construction crane, coming to a rest above the cab.
Leighs managing director Anthony Leighs said while the hospital incident "technically" involved Pegasus Engineering, "it wasn't a result of any Pegasus action".
Police offered their sympathies to Patel's friends and family.
