Give me a break from Wacko Jacko!

Last updated 10:30 06/07/2009

If I ever hear the names Michael and Jackson together again in the same breath I may well moonwalk my way over to my TV set and put my boot through it.

I'm sorry, I know I sound like the crusty curmudgeon I am, but enough of the MJ. Please.

Ok, I know for Generation Y and X it's like when John Lennon was shot and Elvis spontaneously combusted in a flame out of prescription drugs and body fat, but do I sense a little overkill in the Jackson coverage?

Fevered live reports from outside closed mansion gates in LA. Lead item or second lead in radio and TV. Wall to wall in the papers.

What is all the fuss about?

Yep, Michael Jackson was a highly talented performer, his early work with the Jackson 5 should merit him a place in the Rock 'n roll Hall of fame, even without the Killer blitzkrieg that followed.

But let's face it. It's a freak show.

His life was a rolling tragedy. Marriage to Elvis' daughter. Supposedly having children with the nurse who treated his bleached scrotum. Allegations of paedophilia.

A half billion dollar fortune with half a billion of debt.

Wacko JackoEven after death he's still being exploited by his vile father and the legion of bloodsuckers who surrounded him and did their best to milk him dry financially and emotionally.

Meanwhile the family squabble over what's left of his estate.

His children, if they are biologically his children, have become instruments in a tug of greed between competing factions.

His family want to bury him on the Neverland ranch, embedded in concrete to deter grave robbers.

Now the bankrupt City of Los Angeles is bankrolling a gaudy extravaganza that is supposed to pass for some kind of funeral or memorial service.

Jackson is robbed of dignity even in death.

Oh. I think I've answered my own question. The whole thing is some kind of ghoulish black tragi-comedy and we're standing on the roadside, staring in fascination at the smash.

I guess it's also one of those markers we all share in life. A kind of 'where were you when you heard Princess Di was dead' or a 'remember when you first heard man had landed on the moon?' common moment in time.

I guess there's nothing to be done, except turn off the radio and telly and avert my eyes on the world pages whenever I see the name Jackson.

The MJ mania will reach its zenith this week with the funeral/memorial concert and the (possibly temporary) burial at Forest Lawn cemetery but then I think coverage will simply shift gears because the condition of his estate and the manner of his death mean this will then become a feast for lawyers.

Oh Lord! There is going to be no end to this.

Thank God; a voice of sanity!

I'm right there with you, couldn't stand him or his music when he was alive, now I have to endure a radio comeback and get those irritating 'hits' stuck in my head, most annoying! What gets me though, is that people are so surprised by his death. Even as someone who avoided as much information about him as possible, I was not at all surprised, could see it coming a mile away. If anything I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner.

It's funny how things change. I remember Michael (as did Princess Di) wanting a break from the media, but the media don't do that do they? Figured you would have known this Bill.

The media frenzy that surrounds a celebrity (even in death) will only stop if the celebrity can no longer sell their stories. This one still has some ways to go before it'll end.

This is why I don't buy into trashy, tabloids - but while people continue to buy them, I don't expect them to go away, nor do I expect news media to be free from sensationalistic journalism. News is a business too.

RIP Michael Jackson.

100% behind you !!!

Er... then why write another article about him?

Dan   #6   02:25 pm Jul 06 2009

This is not a voice of sanity. This is merely his opinion. I feel there hasnt been enough coverage and im sick of righteous journalists draggin mj down even more. He was the man. You arent. Thats why people care.

Finally! some one who agrees with the way I've been feeling!! I have just wanted this whole thing to be over. So, what he died; big deal. Everyone dies sometime. Some of us take our own lives but why should someone who had plastic surgery to be a different colour from that they were born get to spend so much time in the lime light? When Lady Di died there wasn't all this going sh!t. Hang Lady Di was a member of the Royal Family not a signer (who in my eyes didn't do music that was that good anymore). Let his thing drop. There must be more important things to report on then Wacko Jacko & the whole 'He said, She said' thing.

I have to agree with your blog.

Unfortunately as long as tabloid 'newspapers' and magazines(you know who they are) continue to exploit neanderthal readers by printing drivel about 'celebs' then the stories will go to print.

MJ is the Lennon/Elvis/Joplin(Janis)/Morrison(Jim)/Scott(Bon)/Miller(Glenn) of his era. An incredible talent. Sorely missed. Gone before his time.

RIP MJ - as for the rest of you - in his own words '..just leave me alone...'

Remember the saying 'if you don't have anything nice to say, say nothing' ? For goodness sake, the man is dead! If you are sick of heaing about MJ, then why have you clicked onto this news article and bothered leaving a message? Go away, really, go do something else. MJ is a legend, there will never be anyone as great, so unless you have something nice to say about him, go annoy someone else, your words have no substance and we don't want to hear any negativity about a person who has positively influenced so many..

@ Dan, is that why you are the only one thus far with your opinion? *rolls eyes*

@ Trevor this is a blog, we can contribute, it's a little different, we can use it as an outlet to say 'hell yeah, I am so sick of hearing about it! :-)

@ Bill - could not agree more, let him RIP and let us have some news without hearing about him.
